Nicola Whelan
Customer Focus Manager
I started with GameStop as a Part Time Sales Assistant when I was 17 years old and still in secondary school. I then went onto Art College but I realised pretty quickly that it wasn’t for me. As I was still working for GameStop at the time I spoke to my then Manager and discussed the possibility of me moving up within the organisation. I found that once I offered GameStop commitment to the role I progressed very quickly. A clear path of development was set out for me and as you can see it was achievable.
I moved from my position as a part time Sales Assistant onto a full time sales assistant role, then onto become an assistant manager and my final position in our stores saw me take over the position of Store Manager in our Pavilions Store in Swords. All of these moves pay testimony to GameStop’s commitment to staff development.
My current role includes managing the Training & Development Department, reviewing operational policies and dealing with customer relations. It wasn’t my original career plan but I have gained invaluable experience and insight to how a successful company operates in today’s difficult economic climate.
My favorite thing about GameStop is the people; we have managed to maintain our friendly and social environment throughout the company’s growth. I’ve worked in both the stores and Head Office, so I find I can relate to a variety of employees in various roles within the business which ultimately allows me to do a better job.
Down the road I plan on furthering my education which will tie into my current position and which will allow me to take the next step in my career.
