I have been in retail since I was 16 years old – starting in a part-time position when I was still at school. I was never an office person and I found that I enjoyed and was good at retail. I started with GameStop as a Store Manager in Belfast and the one thing that struck me straight away was that every person in the business was interested in how my store performed. Not a day went by that I doubted that the success of my own and every other store was on the mind of the directors.
The expectations are high and when I originally moved into the role of Area Manager 3 ½ years ago I got support from all areas to grow into the role and moved from 5 – 20 stores. While I was completing my Masters I began to understand that whether you were a solicitor or working on a shop floor – you were still selling a product or service to a customer so in effect every role includes an element of retail.
Retail is essential to the success of the economy and GameStop is still growing. What stands out with GameStop is the enthusiasm that comes from every part of the business and I think it is this quality that ensures we have the best people in the business and that we continue to grow.
