Martin Hayes
Store Manager
My career with GameStop started back in 2004 when I took a role as an MIT (Manager in Training). This role was based in Henry Street and meant that I moved to various stores to offer support and gain valuable experience. I decided to leave GameStop for a year to try my hand at fashion retail as I have a real interest in that area. Whilst I enjoyed it I found that it was a different type of selling.
With most retail groups you display and sell a product through and that means your relationship with your customer only lasts as long as the sale, possibly longer if they have to return a product. The most challenging and most enjoyable part of working with GameStop is building a relationship with your customers and developing a rapport. Our business model relies on staff building a solid customer base. So while targets are important and the work needs to get done I believe the most important part of my job is getting the right team in place and ensuring that they get behind the product.
I have to admit that the open and direct relationship between Stores and Head Office does make that job much easier. I have been back with GameStop since 2006 and am currently the Store Manager of their Henry Street store. In my experience GameStop has a unique atmosphere and the people within the organisation make it a very enjoyable place to work.
